Apply Now: Open City Council Seat

Our community is in the midst of exciting changes — and you can help shape our future as a member of the Issaquah City Council.

We’re seeking qualified candidates to fill a vacancy on the City Council. Now is your chance to get involved in the most important issues facing Issaquah, such as enhancing our economic development, addressing growth and preserving our outstanding quality of life.

The Nov. 6, 2017 general election included unopposed candidate Justin Walsh on the ballot for Council Position No. 3. Walsh, however, recently moved out of the Issaquah city limits; therefore, his seat — currently held by Eileen Barber — will become vacant beginning Jan. 1, 2018.

Here’s what you need to know to apply:
  • In order to be considered for the vacant council seat, qualified candidates must be at least 18 years old; a registered voter; and resident of the City of Issaquah for at least one year prior to the appointment.
  • Complete our online application and upload your letter of interest by 10 a.m. Jan. 9.

If you apply, you’ll have the opportunity to:
  • Provide a 10-minute verbal presentation to the City Council Jan. 16.
  • Attend a meet-and-greet with council and community members Jan. 23.

The City Council expects to fill the vacancy Feb. 5, and if the appointee is present at the meeting, the oath of office may be conducted then.

The appointee to the vacant seat will serve until the November 2019 general election is certified.
